Filipino MMA Champ CJ de Tomas is Now a UFC Fighter

CJ de Tomas

URCC Flyweight Champ Gets the Call

Undefeated URCC flyweight champ CJ “Goldenboy” de Tomas is the latest Filipino fighter to be signed by the UFC. He will be debuting against Naoki Inoue at UFC Singapore this June 17.

With an unblemished 8-0 record, de Tomas literally took down the main pugilists of his division, first against Carlo Laurel at URCC 26, then wrestling the URCC belt from Hideo Morikawa in a one-sided affair at URCC 27, and finally defending his belt against striking specialist Alvin Ramirez at URCC 28.

“Goldenboy”, whose father is also an MMA fighter, started training in martial arts at the tender age of 5. He has always predicted that his life-long pursuit of the martial arts will one day land him in the UFC. “Sabi ko nung nagsa-start palang ako, ‘…pag nasa 20’s na ako, nasa UFC na ako,’” CJ told us in a prior interview. Should he debut anytime soon, de Tomas would be exactly 20 years old when he steps inside the Octagon.

We at MMA Philippines would like to congratulate CJ de Tomas for making it to the world’s premier MMA promotion. We predicted his move to the UFC in our scouting report last year, and we’re glad it’s happening sooner than later. Mabuhay ka, “Goldenboy”!
